Killie Are Premier Bound!

Kilmarnock 0 Hamilton 0
(Scot Division 1, Match 44, Rugby Park, May 15th 1993)

Killie needed just a point from their final fixture to ensure their promotion to the Premier League. It was on May 15th 1993 Rugby Park hosted it's most important match in over a decade as Killie attempted to regain their top flite status for the first time since they finished bottom of the Premier Division in the 1982-83 season (when they managed just 3 wins in 36 matches!).

A masive capacity crowd of
12,830 (with hundreds "locked-out" out of the ground outside)

Player of the year Bobby Geddes (left) made an early save from from Accies McDonald, and the same player had Geddes showing his top form from a freekick, where Napier blasted the rebound off of the underside of the bar.

Killie then began to gain their compusure, with McSkimming and McCluskey taking the game to the Accies.

McCluskey was unlucky not to score with a shot that was deflected round the wrong side of the post.

Despite Accies fine showing the Killie faithful were in full voice as they knew that the 3rd placed Pars were losing to Morton, so Killie's result became less and less important as time wore on.

McSkimming hit the bar in the second half, and that was as close as either team was going to come on this day.... but it did'nt matter to Killie as their point ensured their promotion up to the Premier Division.

When full-time did arrive the players made straight for the dressing room, with the majority of the Killie fans right behind them!

Not to worry the full squad returned to the field so that the fans could adorn their hero's! The pitch was awash with Blue & White in scenes that will never be forgotten by those in attendance.

Manager Tommy Burns (who was injured on the day) said after the match "It was the greatest moment of my career!"

Kilmarnock: Geddes, Skilling, Montgomerie, Paterson, Reilly, Mitchell, McPherson, McCluskey, Crainie, Millen, & McSkimming.

Subs: None Used.

Attendance: 12,830
