Killie Celebrate Their First 100 Years!

Kilmarnock 1 Eintracht 1
(KFC Centenary Match, Rugby Park, April 12th, 1969)

Kilmarnock played their centenary match on April 12th 1969 at Rugby Park

Eintracht Fankfurt were selected as the opposition, as they represented Killie's most famous European opponents Killie had beaten Eintracht some 5 years earlier 5-4  on aggreagate, in the Fais Cities Cup, in Killie's first European cup tie.

On the field Scottish Television's Bill Tennent introduced dozens of fo
rmer Killie players to the crowd,

All players with more than 5 years of service, or had played in the 1920 or
1929 cup winning sides were invited.

From the 1920 side were Shortt, McNaught & McPhail, and Williamson & Cunningham for the 1929 side.

Before the game a special publication was issued "Go Fame", a Kilmarnock Football Club history, which was written by football writer and Killie fan Hugh Taylor.

The match was pretty tame by all accounts with Gerry Queen opening the scoring for Killie, in the first Half for Killie.

Kilmarnock: McLaughlan, King, Dickson, Gilmour, McGrory, Beattie, T McLean, Morrison, Queen, J. McLean & McIlroy

Subs: Sinclair,  McKellar & Evans.

Crowd: 10,513
