McCurry Denies Killie !

Kilmarnock 0 Celtic 0
(Scot Premier Division, Match 16, Rugby Park, Dec 6th 1997)

Mike McCurry denied all 3 Killie penalty claims, as Killie held the Celts at Rugby Park. Celtic were hot favorites coming into the match having won the Coca Cola League Cup the previous week.

Williamson made 2 changes to the team that beat the Pars the prior week, Bunion in for Roberts, & Burke for Bully.

Killie seized the first half control early with Reilly & Holt shackling Celtic. This limited Celtic to only long shots that Lekovic handled with ease.

At the other end Pat Nevin  was giving Mahe a roasting & Vareille looked menacing also.

Most of the attention in the post match centered around Killie's THREE penalty claims .... none of which were awarded!!!

In the first half Jerome was pulled down in the box after a mis-timed challenge only for play to be waved on, followed by a second half incident where Mahe clearly held Nevin inside the area.

Killie's strongest claim, came after Stubbs shoved Paul Wright (right) to the ground, just inside the box, not even a wimpy "safe" outside the box call was made by McCurry, who was only feet away from the incident!

Suffice to say the Killie faithful were absolutely livid, with McCurry's non-performance on the day!

Jim Lauchlan was named Killie's "man of the match'.

Kilmarnock: Lekovic, MacPerson , Kerr, Lauchlan, McGowne, Holt, Nevin, Wright, Vareille ,  Burke, (Henry 74 mins),

Subs Not Used: Roberts & Mitchell

Ref: Mike McCurry

Attendance: 15,632
