ALAN MAHOOD has revealed he
wants the chance to say goodbye to the Kilmarnock fans after six
glorious years at Rugby Park. (May 7th 2004)
The midfielder was this week told by Jim
Jefferies he won't be offered a new contract and will join hundreds of
his fellow pros in a search for new
employment in the summer.
Mahood played close to 150 games for Killie
and at 31 is likely to be a target for SPL managers.
He was always a fans' favourite and now his
time in Ayrshire is coming to an end, he is desperate to thank them.
Mahood said: 'I think I may have played my
last game for the club but it would be nice to think that I will get the
chance to say my goodbyes. I have had six years here and the highs have
well outnumbered the lows.
'It has been a great time for me and
Kilmarnock will always mean a lot to me and my family.
'The manager sat me down and said he thought
the players he had under contract were good enough to take the club
forward and that meant I was
leaving.
'I haven't spoken to the manager about
playing one last game but it would be nice.'
Now Mahood faces a nervy time to see if he
can sort himself out with a new club.
He said: 'I spoke this over with my wife Pam
because I have her to consider as well as my son Ross.
'We're not going away on holiday this year
because I need to find something else.
'But I still think I'm lucky. This is the
first time this has happened to me in all my years in football which is
more than what a lot of other boys can say.
'Hopefully
I'll have one or two offers but I don't think anyone can pick and choose
these days.'
Alan was killiefc.com
'Player of the Year" for 2002.
