Do You Remember ? It came as a big surprise when I got a phone call from Bobby Williamson and they told me he wanted Martin Baker from St. Mirren and Tony Fitzpatrick was interested in me as part of a swap deal. Bobby told me that I didn't figure in his plans for the new season so I had no option but to speak to Tony. What's your greatest memory of Killie? Obviously winning the 97 Scottish Cup was one of them, but I would say that my first season with Killie was the greatest highlight for me. Although it was a hard struggle, the new team spirit under Tommy Burns and Billy Stark was tremendous. It was an honour to play in the Killie team which secured Premier League status. Favourite goals? In my first season my goal against Celtic was really special, but I've got to say my goal against Dundee in the opening game and on my debut will live with me forever. Any great disappointments or regrets? It was a huge disappointment to actually leave Killie, not just the team but the club itself, the staff and the tremendous supporters whom I felt I had a good rapport with. My only regret is that I didn't play as many games and score as many goals as I should have. Your view of the Peter Grant incident. My only memory of the Peter Grant incident is that although all the Killie fans loved it, they weren't the ones who had to tell my wife Linda I'd been fined two weeks wages, but if it makes the Killie fans happy, I'll do anything. How would you like to be remembered by the Killie supporters? To be remembered at all by the fans for whatever reason is good enough for me. I think the fans appreciated the commitment and effort I showed every time I pulled on a Killie jersey. If they remember that, I'll be happy.
Your thoughts on cup final day? Coming along John Finnie Street into a sea of blue and white and seeing the joy etched on the faces of the Killie die-hards is what I'll remember most. I'll also remember my sense of disappointment at not starting the game, maybe I sensed it would be my last game for Killie. What are your plans for the future? My plans for the future are to give St. Mirren everything I've got so they can achieve the potential they've got to become as successful as Killie have. Outside football I plan to continue my accounting studies at night school and spend as much precious time as I can with my baby son Ewan. Any message for the KFC faithful? My message to the Killie fans is simply this, it was the biggest honour of my life to pull on that blue and white jersey, and to hear my name being chanted inside Rugby Park is something I'll never forget. I want to thank them for that and wish you all even more success in the future. Interview By Donny Muir
