FC Killie No Stick in the Muds!

Angie & Bev both on target in Kircaldy

Raith Rovers LFC 0 - 2 FC Kilmarnock
(SWPL Match - 24th November 2002, 2.00pm Kick Off)

On Sunday FC Kilmarnock traveled away to Kirkcaldy to play Raith Rovers LFC in the Premier League. Despite having 3 squad players away in Miami with the Scottish U17 squad the league champions agreed to take on the fixture to try and avoid a backlog of fixtures later on in the season.

On a muddy pitch the visitors started the game reasonably well and despite having long periods of possession they simply couldn't find a cutting edge to open the scoring. As the players became more frustrated and began making a lot of mistakes the home side began to sneak a few chances and indeed could have found themselves in the lead but blew the chance shooting wide of goal.

With only a few minutes remaining in the first half the ball was worked to Bev McLaughlin on the right hand side who beat her opponent and crossed the ball into the box. After a scramble the ball broke to Angie Hind to put the ball in the net from only a few yards out.

After the half time break the away team were fully expected to raise their game and go on to put more goals past the young Kirkcaldy side however this never materialized as Kilmarnock failed to take any real control of the game. Although Raith had no real efforts on goal Kilmarnock failed to cut open the defence and were limited to only a few chances.

With only 2 minutes left in the game Bev McLaughlin was on hand to capitalize from a goal keeper error and coolly slot the ball into an empty net to at last give the Champions some peace of mind and finish the game at 2-0.

This Sunday FC Kilmarnock again play Raith Rovers in a re-arranged league fixture and despite still having the National players missing they will certainly hope to put in a more positive performance against the same opposition. 2pm kick off at Hurlford Juniors.

FC Kilmarnock: Johnstone, Cheyne, Burns, Kerr, Smith, Hind (Love 75), Sneddon, Fowler (McLaughlin 75), Hough, Hamill, Brown (Black 85).
