Lucky 7 Puts Killie Back On Top!

FC Kilmarnock 7 - 1 Dundee LFC
(SWPL Match - 24th November 2002, 2.00pm Kick Off)

On Sunday FC Kilmarnock gave an excellent performance to lift them to the top of the Premier League, where they hope to stay for the rest of the season. The Killie girls played host to middle of the table Dundee but the home team were reduced to a squad of only twelve due to injuries and illness but despite that they put in one of there best performances of the season to win the game in some style.

Right from the start Killie dominated the game, keeping the ball for long spells and creating a few early chances. The deadlock was broken after only twelve minutes when Sarah Hough scored a superb goal beating two defenders before cracking a left foot drive high into the net.

The next goal was to come from a terrific strike by forward Linda Brown which the keeper failed to hold and Bev McLaughlan was at hand to tap the ball into the net to make the score 2-0. Despite the away team failing to even test Kilmarnock's Claire Johnstone in goals that score line remained unchanged going into the break.

The second half started much the same with Bev McLaughlan doubling her tally with only five minutes gone, courtesy of a rebound from the keeper which she coolly slotted home. A great solo run from midfielder Jo Love resulted in a fine strike and that took the score to 4-0 after an hour of play and only minutes later a powerful header from skipper Angie Hind made it five goals with no reply.

Dundee did respond with a tremendous long range strike soon after but it was much too late for a come back. In the final 10 minutes, goals from Lesley Fowler and a Linda Brown free kick rounded off the scoring and the match finished 7-1 in favour of the home team. With league challengers Hibs losing their game, this result sent FC Kilmarnock back to the top of the Premier League and continues there 18 month unbeaten league run.

This Sunday the Killie girl's are off to Shotts to play their League Cup Semi-final against Hibs, and they hope to have most of the squad fit to play.
