Killie Girls Division Three Champs!

Cowdenbeath WFC 2 - 10 FC Kilmarnock Girls
(SWFL Match - 16th March 2003, 2.00pm Kick Off)

FC Kilmarnock Divisional finished the season in style with a 10-2 victory over Cowdenbeath Ladies, to make them league champions. Killie went out with all guns blazing and less than 20 seconds into the match, Naomi Johnstone fired home first goal of the game. With Killie dominating the game so far, they doubled their lead shortly after with a fantastic header from Christine Harkness.

Cowdenbeath pressured the away side on occasions, but a strong Killie defence prevented them from having any shots on goal. A defensive clearance found Johnstone again who chipped the keeper making it 3-0. Not long after that a Johnstone cross was met by Lynsey McQuade who tapped in Killie's 5th goal of the game. Killie were in the ascendancy and further goals from Lynzi Bayne, Toni Masson and Naomi Johnstone's hat-trick, made it 8-0 at half time.

Kilmarnock took the foot off the pedal second half which resulted in two goals for the home team. But with this being a warning to them, Killie raised their game yet again. A fantastic save from keeper Lori West prevented Cowdenbeath from raising their tally to three before Yvonne Young came on for Gillian Cree.

Lynzi Bayne scored her second goal with a skillful solo run and a well struck finish. With five minutes to go, Dianne Brown scored her first goal of the season with a fantastic left foot volley, we reckon it was well worth the wait. Well done to Mary who came on for Christine Harkness and played her first game of the season.

Overall, it was a very exciting game and each player gave their best performance. Well done girls, it was a well deserved win. The girls would like to say a big thank you to Manager, Donna Wood, who put in a lot of time and effort into making the team champions. The general consensus was "We couldn't have done it with out you Coach!"
