No.4 - Barry McLaughlin

Full Name: Barry McLaughlin

Nickname: Trigger

Position: Defender/Centre Half

Date of Birth: 19th April 1973

Birthplace: Paisley

Height: 6ft 1ins

Weight: 12st 7lbs

Former Clubs: St Mirren

Signed KFC: 15th May 2002

Notes: Barry was the first signing of new manager Jim Jefferies but has not featured a great deal so far. He was originally brought in for cover for a bargain basement price of £30,000 from first division St Mirren where he had spent most of his career and was indeed the club captain. With the subsequent transfer of cup hero Kevin McGowne to Dundee United just shortly afterwards, it is expected that Barry will play a much more important role than first anticipated, that is if he manages to get into the first team before big Chris Innes and Sean Hessey of course. Having seen the player only in a couple of matches so far we are loathe to pass too much comment on Barry but he seems to be a very able defender and a possible future captain of the club.

Arguably Jim Jefferies best signing to date. The real true replacement for Ray Montgomerie we have been searching for. Is commanding in the air and solid in the tackle. Is a fine distributor of a ball too. Usually a certain starter when fit.

I am impressed with McLaughlin, not only is he a nice bloke and probably the nicest of all the new signings made in the summer, but he is a good defender who can score goals.

Shame to see him out injured but I hope he's back soon.

Quickly established himself in the heart of defence and could be a Killie regular for the rest of his career. Very unfortunate to join the casualty list but will be back soon enough. I think he still has a testimonial to get at St Mirren and I'll be going to lend my support to the big man.

Was slightly concerned about whether Barry could make the step up from bottom of first division to SPL.
Silly CB!
Trigger has made himself comfortably at home in the heart of our defence, with several strong performances under his belt so far this season.

he had to tear himself away from St Mirren but he's made the step up and fitted in well. IMO a better player than Hessey an hopefully Freddy an baz can learn each other's games an get a good partnership in defence going.
