Kilmarnock FC - Player Profiles 2002-03

No.10 - Craig Dargo

Full Name: Craig Dargo

Nickname: Dargs

Position: Forward/Striker

Date of Birth: 3rd January 1978

Birthplace: Edinburgh

Height: 5ft 7ins

Weight: 9st 7lbs

Former Clubs: Raith Rovers

Signed KFC: 6th July 2000

Notes: Craig was brought in by Bobby Williamson during the close season of 2000 but due to his age we had to fork out a reputed £100,000 in compensation because he was under 23. What a good piece of business - on our part. The former U21 Scottish internationalist (with ten caps) had a good scoring record at Raith and, when eventually given a sustained run in the first team, continued that form for us. He won the inaugural killiefc.com player of the year, just sneaking it from the magnificent Dindeleux on the last day. That should give you some inclination as to how much the supporters really rated him at the time. Craig has the ability to score a barrow load of goals for Killie, given the right support, and he has just signed a two year extension to his current contract.

He is a good player at times. That goal he scored in the semi final of the CIS Cup was brilliant.

Killie's top scorer from the last two seasons and currently in talks to stay on after this season. Craig is a wee nippy striker that defender's really hate to defend against. He is at his best with the ball at his feet and is very tricky on the ball. What he lacks in height and build he more than makes up for in enthusiasm. Scored one of the all time best Killie goals at Hampden v St. Mirren in the League Cup Semi-final 2001

We are still talking about THE goal against St Mirren, which shows how good a goal it really was. Dargo's a great wee player who never stops running and scores some good goals. Hopefully he can sort out a new contract and stay at Killie for another few years.

Very hard worker who will score a chance if it comes his way. Currently negotiating a new contract but if he wants to further his career he should look for a move down south.

That goal against St. Mirren in the cup will stick in my mind for ever. Not quite the 20 goals a season striker we were expecting when we signed him from Raith Rovers but he is still a hard-working wee striker. Played the end of last season behind the strikers where he played well

Scored the best goal to have graced the hallowed turf at Hampden in many a year. He's been Killie's top goalscorer for the last few seasons, however I think he is a bit inconsistent and if he can improve this then he should be aiming for around 15-20 goals a season. D-A-R-G-O

God!
Gets too much criticism from the fans sometimes. If the service from the midfield improves then he can be that 20 goal a season striker we're after.

D.A.R.G.O

Scored probably the best goal I've seen by anyone in a Killie shirt. Also looks silly with cycling shorts on under his shorts. Nuff said.

like most young Scottish strikers, Dargo hasn't turned out to be the player he was potentially made out to be. He is not the "big striker" we were after but he is still a useful addition to the squad and scores the odd classic

Dargs is fast and nippy, but he is small and easily knocked off the ball. He also seems to lack the self-confidence that strikers need to succeed. JJ seems to like him but it looks as though his time at RP is coming to an end by his own choice. That goal will not be forgotten by anyone who witnessed it (it was even better than it looked on telly), but it may also be a millstone around the lad's neck.

Great wee player!
Suffers from a lack of confidence which isn't helped by those who are quick to get on his back because he doesn't keep scoring goals like that goal at Hampden.
Hope he stays

10) Craig Dargo

Great Player - full of enthusiasm, chases everything, can drive Kilmarnock forward, holds the ball well, but can also take players on (e.g. CIS Semi wonder goal!). Could become a Scotland player in future, and would thoroughly deserve it. Great wee dancer, nice bloke and has one of the best songs in Scottish fitba'    D - A - R - G - O!!!!!
