Kilmarnock FC - Player Profiles 2002-03

No.13 - Colin Meldrum

Full Name: Colin George Meldrum

Nickname: Melly

Position: Goalkeeper

Date of Birth: 26th November 1975

Birthplace: Kilmarnock

Height: 5ft 11ins

Weight: 15st 2lbs

Former Clubs: KFC Youth, Stranraer (loan), Ross County (loan)

Signed KFC: 3rd September 1993

Notes: Colin won six Scotland Under 21 caps in his time at the club and he has successfully deputised for various keepers since he signed from the youth ranks. His record number of first team appearances in one season was 27 in 1999-2000 when Marshall was injured but despite being a great shot stopper he is still considered second choice behind the big man. His only stint as first choice was ended when he was badly injured during a match with Hibs which led to him needing 27 stitches in his face. Now that's dedication above and beyond the call of duty! Colin seems to have been at the club forever and with Big Gordon looking likely to retire in the near future he will need to stake his claim for the number one slot soon or else lose out to young pretenders Colin Stewart, Graeme Smith or Colin Samson.

He plays well when he is in the Team. Needs to command his box better at times.

Excellent shot-stopper, has a bit of a Dracula complex when it comes to crosses though. Needs to work a bit on commanding his box better. All in all a good solid number 2, who hasn't let the team down when he has been called upon to step up to the plate.

Whose cruel idea was it for the word "lisp" to have an "s" in it?

Our own Victor, is one of the most reliable back up 'keepers in the SPL. Can always be relied upon to put on a good shift between the sticks when called into the team. An excellent shot-stopper

Ok here we go. Excellent back up to Marshall and should be our main keeper some of this season if not for the full of next season. Has been unlucky to have had so many goalies to play along side.

Has been unfortunate in that when we lose one good keeper we get another so he has been given few chances in the first team but when he fills in he does alright. His testimonial must be coming up soon .

Should have really have become our first choice keeper when Dargoje left. If he got a run in the team when he was younger then I feel he would be one of the best keepers in the SPL. Brave and a great shot stopper but as many have said before me, he's a bit suspect at crosses.

I would rather have him between the sticks than Marshall as I think he is a better shot stopper and is more agile. However he takes a cross just as bad as Gordon and unlike Marshall, he cant command a box...

IMO he's not as bad as some folk make out. He is a good shot stopper, but slow to come off his line. It is obvious that the defenders don't have the confidence in him that they have with Marshall.
I don't think he'll re-sign at the end of the season, and a move to another club would kick start a faltering career.
