Kilmarnock FC - Player Profiles 2002-03

No.15 - Peter Canero

Full Name: Peter Canero

Nickname: Pedro

Position: Defender/Midfielder (Right/Left)

Date of Birth: 18th January 1981

Birthplace: Glasgow

Height: 5ft 9ins

Weight: 12st 0lbs

Former Clubs: Killie Boys Club

Signed KFC: 16th October 1997

Notes: Peter was capped for Scotland at Under 18 and Under 21 level, recently scoring the equaliser against Denmark in a 1-1 draw. When we did the notes last season, Peter was being utilised as a right back/wing back by Bobby Williamson but has since been moved into the left back/wing back slot by Jim Jefferies who reckons that he defends better there. If ever there was a player suited to a wing back role it is Peter because he is very strong getting forward and creates no end of problems for opposition defences, sometimes though it's been hard to get a settled place in the team because he's so versatile! Peter has a great 'engine' and never seems to tire, almost certain that he will go on to win full international caps before long if Mr. Vogts would care to cast his eye down Rugby Park way now and then.

Peter is doing great for both Killie and Scotland. He gives 100% when he plays.

He's a great player. He's no scared to run at players and he's got the skill and speed to skin them.

Good player for Killie! Exciting to see him run at the opposition - wish he'd do it more often.
Congratulations to PC on scoring for Scotland.

Wish he'd been playing last night

Fantastic young player! great going forward but needs to work on keeping his cool when defending. Sometimes makes silly mistakes. Definitely a future Scotland regular

Peter has had a bad time with injuries over the summer and is now coming back to his best. Scored for Scotland in midweek and scored one of the goals that took Killie to Hampden for the 2001 League Cup Final. He is a strong, bustling player who is difficult to dispossess and can only benefit from the education Jim Jefferies will give him.

Peter is one of the 'young ones'' brought up by BW. he has played at both full back and wing. scored his first goal for u-21's on Tuesday v. Denmark and should make the step up to the full squad. If Berti comes to rugby park

I hear they're even coming from...Gdansk to watch Killie play

Another pacey player who has the ability to play on either wing although seems to prefer the right side. Also better at going forward as his tackling can sometimes let him down, but he has built himself up and is not so easily pushed off the ball these days. He could put his pace to better use by going past more players on the wing and getting more crosses in, but he is young and definitely has the potential to go further in the game.
Has picked up 8 U21 caps and if BV can get directions to a Killie game then he may be given a step up to full level. KILLIE PLAYER MOST LIKELY TO BREAK INTO SCOTLAND SETUP

Good player with great pace, I'm sure he'll become a Scotland full cap soon. His first touch and tackling let him down sometimes however. Still a cracking player and the team miss him when he isn't fit.

Best player at the club by a mile. Sign him up long term now or he'll follow Holt down south. Will be a Scotland regular before the Euro Championships are over.

Excellent young player who can undoubtedly go onto full international honours if he keeps improving. Not sure exactly his best position but very good athlete and should be used in an attacking midfield role I'd guess. Once fully fit he would always be in my starting eleven.
