Kilmarnock FC - Player Profiles 2002-03

No.26 - Colin Stewart

Full Name: Colin Stewart

Nickname: Big Col

Position: Goalkeeper

Date of Birth: 10th January 1980

Birthplace: Middlesbrough

Height: 6ft 3ins

Weight: 13st 5lbs

Former Clubs: Ipswich Town, Queen's Park (loan),
Clydebank (loan), Hamilton (loan), Stranraer (loan),
Queen's Park (loan).

Signed KFC: 1st August 1999

Notes: This lad has more loans to his name than The Royal Bank of Scotland! It's good to see he's in demand though, and getting first team experience into the bargain, experience which could prove invaluable if or when he is called into the fray for our first team. Colin is the son of former Killie stalwart Jim Stewart and has followed in his fathers footsteps (or should that be gloves?) in becoming a goalkeeper at Kilmarnock FC. Killie have a reputation for producing great goalies and Colin appears to be following in that tradition. From what we've seen of him he seems to be a great prospect for the future and when the time comes for the Marshall to hang up his gloves he will be a serious contender for the no.1 shirt, but then again Colin Meldrum will probably have something to say about that.

Tall goalkeeper and excellent shot stopper, son of Killie legend, Jim Stewart. He has had various spells on loan with different clubs to get him first team experience. May need to work harder on dealing with crosses and become more aggressive and vocal before he can make inroads into the first team. He has a good teacher though.

I'm not a big fan of Stewart, I've seen him in couple of games and I must admit I'm not impressed. Made some silly mistakes against Kilwinning at Abbey Park, and IMO will never be as good as his dad was!! (not that I can remember his dad playing for Killie!!! )

well I think I seem to be the only one that rates him...I think when Marshall FINALLY retires , stewart will jump ahead of poor Colin Meldrum for the 1st place

This lad WILL be Killie's No1.
When Golden Gordon hangs up his gloves young Stewart will take over.
He has a fantastic kick out, roars like a bull at his defence but still has a lot to learn. It will come, and if he's half as good as his old man, that'll do me.
Good luck.

Have only seen him playing once at Hull and I wasn't' all that impressed (sorry!), but apparently he has been outstanding on his loan spells. Colin is still young and has plenty of time to mature and goalies normally get better as they get older, so only time will tell. Trouble is his contract is up at the end of the season, so will he stay?

Spitting image of his old man and if he turns out anywhere near as good then he'll do alright. He certainly looks like a goalie but seems to commit the odd clanger that lets him down I'm hopeful his spells away on loan will help develop him into a future Killie keeper.
