Kilmarnock FC - Player Profiles 2002-03
No.34
- Shaun Dillon
Full Name:
Shaun Dillon
Nickname:
Dino
Position:
Defender (left/centre)
Date of Birth:
24th August 1984
Birthplace:
Greenock
Height:
5ft 9ins
Weight:
11st 1lbs
Former Clubs:
KFC Youth
Signed KFC:
1st August 2000
Contract
Ends:
31st May 2006
Notes:
Dino is the latest youth player to
be brought through the ranks into the first team, and in his outings so
far he has certainly showed the Kilmarnock faithful why, despite his
youth, the manager has deemed him worthy of a start. Shaun started the
season as the captain of the youth team and scored quite a few goals at
that level (he's a bit of a set piece expert), but it was his defending
qualities that obviously brought him to the attention of the manager
because we were struggling in the left back department at the time. At
only 18 years of age, Dino can only get better, we can only hope that we
can hold on to him as long as possible. His form has also won him a place
in the Scotland Under 21 squad along with team mates Kris Boyd, Stevie
Murray, Colin Samson and Peter Canero and during the winter shutdown he
traveled with them to Portugal for a few games. Signed a three year
contract extension on 11th February 2003. One to watch...just now!

The
lad played very well against Dundee United but was even better
against Motherwell at Fir Park. I hope JJ gives him every chance. No
offence to Hooky who scored a good goal against Celtic Under 21's
but competition for places is healthy.

Solid,
competitive full back who has just broken into the first team. Shows
skill and experience well beyond his years. Has good positional
sense and knows when to tackle or stand tall. Another good prospect
for the future and great at set-pieces too as his four goals for the
U21s this season prove.

I
must say I am impressed with Shaun, he looks like a great player
who, like many others, is still learning from the experienced
players such as Shields, McLaughlin etc
.

He
has been given his chance by JJ and he has played brilliantly.
Hopefully he will get an extended run in the team as his
performances deserve it.

Our
troublesome left back position is Sean's for the taking if he
continues his levels of performance. Defends well, gets forward and
weighs in with a few goals, another excellent youngster through the
ranks.

Been
very impressed by the latest in a long line of good young players.
That rarest of rare commodities...a good left back, and with time
well on his side he surely can only get better and better. If a
chain is only as strong as its weakest link, then a football team is
only as good as its left back. The future looks distinctly rosy for
Killie.

Looks
solid at left back for such a young player. Looks a huge prospect
for the future!

He
came in last year and unfortunately was injured before he had had a
real shout but I thought he looked really good that day. I was
surprised he wasn't given a chance earlier this season, but now it
has come I'm sure he'll take a bit of shifting if he's given the
chance.

I know what your thinking. Has he fired 5 shots or 6.
Come to think of it with all the excitement, I've kind of lost track
myself. Given this is a Magnum 44, the most powerful hand gun in the
world and would blow your head clean off, the question is do you
feel lucky? WELL DO YA PUNK |

He's
impressed me anyway! very confident and capable after being pushed
straight into the squad and he will benefit from an extended run.

The
lad has certainly impressed so far, but is still only a bairn so
let's not get too carried away with him. So far he looks like being
the best left back at the club but only time will tell.

Another
top prospect
This guy has
impressed me both for the reserves and for the first team. Has
hardly put a foot out of place (although did have one wayward
header). Is strong for his size and is a good passer. Also has the
confidence to be up wanting to take free kicks around the opponents
area. Looks as if he may make the left back spot his own.

Really
like this boy. Strong, brave and committed. Solid defender but still
has lots to learn. Good to see him in the team. Bright hope for
future.

Can anyone think of anything witty for my
'signature'? I have run out of ideas...
