No.37
- Craig Samson
Full Name:
Craig Samson
Nickname:
?
Position:
Goalkeeper
Date of Birth:
24th August 1984
Birthplace:
Darvel
Height:
5ft 7ins
Weight:
9st 13lbs
Former Clubs:
None
Signed KFC:
1st August 1999
Notes:
Craig is the only young keeper we have that was not sent out on loan this
season, which has proved fortunate for us at times! Solid performances for
the Under 21's should see him be a serious contender for the No.1 spot if
or when Gordon Marshall retires, and I feel that will be at the end of
this season. Strong, well built, good at handling crosses and commands his
area well...what else can you ask for? Our tip to get the nod ahead of
Meldrum and Smith when the time comes...because Jim Jefferies has already
proved that he's not afraid to put some boys in the team if their
performances merit it.

In
my opinion the best goalkeeper at the club just now. Just a pity
he's so young still for the SPL. A great shot stopper, good
positional sense and his distribution is second to none. I bet there
isn't a better goalie in Scotland, his age group, around at the
moment.

Pros
- Looks like a goalie, built like a goalie, already playing in under
21's and seems destined for a big future
Cons - He's a Ginger and that's been the thorn in the side of many
promising freckled goalies. Just joking big man, you're too big to
argue with.

Good
all round goalie can be called upon at any moment and won't let you
down. With some experience would fit into any team in the SPL no
problem, got a good future ahead of him.

| On
the few occasions I have seen this young goalie he has appeared very
confident in his ability. Seems to have a pair of safe hands, is
agile and good with cross balls ( unlike a few of our older keepers
). Is very well proportioned for a keeper and as goalies tend to get
better with age and experience he may well have a good future. It
may depend on how well the slightly older keepers like Stewart and
Smith do if they get their chance first.

Not
saw him play recently but played against him when he played for Kay
Park and even then he looked a class apart. Hopefully he'll make the
grade.

I
scored a belter past him in his Kay Park days which was proceeded by
a cry of "Pick that out Samson" such was his reputation at
that level.
