The (Not So) New Face of Kilmarnock FC!

Today witnesses the return to Rugby Park of a true Killie legend, Raymond Montgomerie. The Scottish Cup winning captain of 1997 was released in ignominious fashion at the end of his last contract by then manager Bobby Williamson in a manner that some fans saw as nothing less than sacrilege.

Monty went on to play for Partick Thistle for a season but his heart has never been anywhere other than Rugby Park and I'm more than happy to announce that the current management team have welcomed him back into the fold and given him the chance again to do his bit for the club that means so much to him.

The recent departure of Jim McSherry brought about a mixed reaction from the fans but like him or loathe him, the public relations side of his job was a void that had to be filled...and who better to perform that task than the last Killie player to lift the Scottish Cup? Someone the modern day Killie fans can all identify with...someone who always wore his heart on his sleeve and played with a passion and a pride that could only come from being a supporter and not just a player...who else but Monty?

The chief executive and the board obviously recognised this as well and have now appointed Ray as the new Public Relations & Matchday Manager at Kilmarnock FC. I'm sure we will not be the only ones who are delighted at this new appointment and one man who is really over the moon about it is Ray himself...and he wasn't long in telling us about it.

We spoke to Monty on Friday and he said: "I'm really delighted about being given this opportunity to come back to work at Rugby Park. I've spoken to David Heath several times already and he really seems to have a good grip on things and know what he's doing. My remit is to be the bridge between the supporters and the club and the fact that I'm a fan myself should make that a bit easier. The club have kindly agreed not to announce anything until Monday because I want the chance to thank my friends and all the guys who have supported me personally."
