SPL
Strike Two Year Deal With Setanta

The
SPL struck another TV deal on Monday that should see the member clubs
get some more cash into their coffers from a revenue stream that seemed
all but dried up pre-season. Previous talks had stalled but and
agreement with Irish TV company Setanta was finally struck
yesterday.
The deal will allow up to
eighteen matches to be broadcast throughout the UK and Ireland on a pay-per-view basis, with the
league benefiting to the tune of £2.75 million over the next two years.
A similar deal was agreed with Setanta earlier in the campaign, but the league pulled out when the company encountered problems broadcasting
Celtic's Champions League disaster with Basel that ended up with
thousands of viewers seeing the match for free.
Setanta were confident they could iron out the problems and their successful broadcast of
the huns game with Viktoria Zizkov persuaded the league chiefs that they
were up to the task.
The majority of games will be Saturday fixtures featuring either Celtic or
Rangers (there's a surprise), with kick-offs switched to lunchtimes.
Roger Mitchell, the poison dwarf said: "We are delighted that this deal has been struck as it gives fans a wider viewing choice of SPL matches.
It also means fans outside Scotland will now be able to see their favourite teams in action once again."
