Andy Dents Gers Title Aspirations

Garry Hay took a corner on the right and although Klos succeeded in touching the ball away under pressure it fell in the path of McLaren whose volley from around six yards did much damage to Rangers' title aspirations even this early in the campaign.

McLaren was delighted and expressed the view that six yards is probably his ideal distance. But he revealed that he had been concerned that his effort had been disallowed when none of his teammates leapt on him as he ran off to celebrate. On reflection, McLaren suspected that was because of the pace of his run towards the Rangers fans who had been abusing him due to his self-confessed misdemeanours concerning his past way of life. McLaren also felt it had been the best way to pay them back.

'I scored two goals against Dundee when I came off the bench in Jim Jefferies' first game in charge,' recalled McLaren. 'But last year was very stop-start because of injuries .'

McLaren also confessed to be keen to become part of Berti Vogts' Scotland squad plans but said that target was probably still some way off and that he must ensure that he is producing the goods in a Kilmarnock shirt
