If Saturday's referee Mike McCurry has been less lenient,
ex-Killie man Jim McIntyre would have already been off the park after a
two-footed tackle on Peter Canero Killie's Scotland Under-21
international. However, the United midfielder was only booked and then,
puzzlingly, was let off by McCurry when he offended again only seconds
later. McIntyre then went on to score United's undeserved winner.....
Canero acknowledged the irony of the
situation "I just went for the ball and he came in quite
late and caught me and it's quite sore now. It seemed quite bad at the
time."
"I just tried to get past him and I
wasn't sure who it was but it was a bad tackle. But there's nothing you
can do, you just have to get on with it.
"The ref just has to call it the way he
sees it and if he had sent him off, then obviously he would have done it
before he scored but you just have to accept it."
"We're disappointed because we more or
less controlled the game from start to finish and we had a lot of good
chances to win it. To lose a goal right at the death was a sickener.
"In recent games we've showed some
sloppy play at the back and it has cost us again. We thought the goal
was coming but after Kris Boyd's shot came back off the post I thought
then it might not happen for us.
"We have to win at home but we were
unlucky because it's the best we've played in quite a while. It's a hard
one to take but if we keep up performances like that then it's only a
matter of time before we get a couple of results behind us.
"Other teams are getting breaks but
nothing is coming our way. But I think we're due a bit of luck -
hopefully sooner rather than later."
Kilmarnock can feel hard done by. After losing
an early goal to in-form United striker Steven Thompson, the home side
went on to dominate for most of the game. When Stevie Fulton deservedly
equalised, it looked like there would be only one winner - unfortunately
for the Ayrshire side it was United.
