Sticking
The Knife In!
Anyone
picking up a copy of today's Scottish Sun could be forgiven for not
realising that the civilised world is hovering on the brink of war or
that closer to home a six year old was bludgeoned to death with a
hammer. Apparently a faux pas in Killie's half time draw is
considered more newsworthy by the powers that be who own this rag...to
be truthful though I can't say I'm all that surprised...when have they
ever let the truth get in the way of a good story? The coverage in
the Daily Retard wasn't much better but at least they had the decency to
run with a real story on their front page despite their reporter, Neil
Cameron, being just as guilty of trying make a mountain out of the
proverbial molehill.
Quite
where Alan Muir and Robert Greave of The Sun got their
information is a bit of a mystery to me, but I have my suspicions of
course. Neither of them were at last night's KFCSA meeting and they
penned facts that had not been in the press release, so it's obvious
that someone with contacts within the club has been leaking information
to them in an attempt to sensationalise what actually happened. What
actually did happen? As far as I'm led to believe, someone made an
arse of the half time draw at the Sheffield Wednesday game and the 500
quid first prize wasn't paid out. Forgive me for not being horrified
enough to hold the front page.
On
hindsight, it was a mistake that should never have happened, but the
club have held their hands up to it and put steps in place to make sure
it never happens again by publishing the winners every week on the
website and in the match programme. They even reported themselves
to the police just to make sure everything was on the record and done on
the straight and narrow, not exactly the actions of an organisation
trying to shroud itself in secrecy is it?
So...
as far as I can see the only truly guilty parties in this charade are
the snakes who attempted to sell their own club down the river for the
sake of a few headlines. How low can you get? How sweet can revenge
actually be, tempered with the knowledge that you've betrayed those you
once called your own? Let's not kid ourselves here, we all know who I am
talking about and I run the risk of being banned for life should he get
back into a position of power....but the anger I felt today when I saw
those headlines cut me to the bone and I am willing to take that risk to
say what I feel.
In
my opinion an ex-member of staff had a serious hand in the pounding
Killie took in the tabloids this morning. Someone with contacts still at
the club (at the time) who was privy to information that he was willing
to use against those who deposed him. Someone who has numerous contacts
in the press and media due to the position he held within our
club....and someone bitter enough to try and drag the clubs name through
the mud for his own personal gain. Ringing any bells yet?
Changing
the subject slightly, I'd like to move on to our departing vice chairman
Bill Costley. Having just become a Killie fan at the time, the Ingram
fiasco had no profound effect on me, well, Bill Costley's part in it at
least, and I have to be honest and say that I've never really had any
truck with him...well anyone who has supported Killie for all those
years can't be that bad despite what some of his staff are claiming!
However, like so many others I struggle to see what his problem is with
the way the club is being run currently.
As
far as I can see, our new chief exec. has came into the club and
dispensed with almost all of the old guard and their antiquated schools
of thought, dragging Kilmarnock FC kicking and screaming into the 21st
century, and in case you hadn't noticed we are starting to hear the
screams. For me this can only be a good thing for the future of the club
as until the cobwebs are dusted away we will eternally slumber in
'sleeping giant' status, wallowing in the glow of what the 64-65 squad
achieved. But obviously for some, change is not a good thing.
Bill
says: "There are those at the club who wish to take things in a
different direction from us"
Bill
means: I'm not getting my way any more and am not too chuffed about
it so I'm off.
Football
is a business now and we just have to accept that, but it's a business
like no other in the sense that for the most part the major shareholders
lend their support because they want to and not for capital gain. We
have such a man on the board of Kilmarnock in the shape of our majority
shareholder Jamie Moffat. He freely admitted that he had to be persuaded
to maintain his financial interest in the club after his father (god
rest his soul) died, by Bill Costley, but last night he stated that he
now has a passion for the club that can't be wavered and that he is in
this for the long term and wants to build on what this father achieved.
Respect
to Mr. Moffat for being honest and respect to him for his ability
to see beyond the periphery of being in the upper echelons of our game
and being proud to belong to the Kilmarnock FC family. The departing
directors have my respect for what they achieved in their time at the
club but for me the way in which they departed negated so much of their
tenure that it leaves a somewhat bitter taste in the mouth. It's a shame
really that it all had to end for them like this, but considering the embarrassment
that they've caused in the last few days, I'll be glad to see the back
of them.
The
Killie bandwagon will rumble on no matter, or sometimes despite, who is
sitting in the boardroom. There is no substitute for fan power because
when they have had their day, we will all still be here because we are
Killie 'til we die.
