FC Killie Lose To Host Side in Euro Encounter
Brondby
IF 2 - 0 FC Kilmarnock This is not really a match report, more of an update on how the girls are doing so far and a score check for those interested (you should be). It was always going to be a tough opening encounter as Brondby are the host club and have a strong squad to boot...not literally of course. Killie lost two goals in the latter stages of the first half, Kjaer Jensen (39) and Munch (40), and that was how the match was to end, 2-0. In the evening match in the other game in the group ZFK Masinac-Classic Niš beat KR Reykjavik 3-1 to see them go top of the group on goals scored. We will try and bring you the team line ups etc. at a later date.
We spoke to FC Kilmarnock manager Jim Chapman this morning to see how things were panning out. He said: "We actually played very well defensively considering the opposition and coped reasonably well. The experience for the girls playing at this level is invaluable and it will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season. Still, quality counts and I feel that they just had that bit more than us and deserved their victory. We will strive to up our game for the next match." He went on: "We watched the other group match later that night and we think that it will be another tough game on Friday. The Serbian team (nicely put Chappie!) did well to come back from a goal down to win 3-1. They were quick and strong and have several players who are very good on the ball, it wont be easy." "The girls are just off for their lunch now before a light training session this afternoon. The facilities here are second to none and I'm really glad that we are here. As I've said before, this tournament probably came a bit too early for us but it's all about what the girls will get out of it that matters, it will have a large bearing on the rest of the season." |
