Player Profile: Alistair Burgess
Notes: I started playing for the Squirrels in 2001 when we still played all our home games in Dreghorn. Work colleague Bungle recruited me into the squad, not because of my football ability but because I lived next to the pitches and owned a Killie top (we were a lot less organised back then). My debut was against Partick Thistle and I was thrown in at Centre Half, despite that we went on to win the game 6-5. During my illustrious playing career with the Squirrels I have been played as either a Centre Half or Left Back. My preferred position is left back as it means I am far enough away to escape the wrath of Big Dave whenever I make my crucial match turning mistake - Although as many have learned to their cost you're never too far away to escape a tongue lashing from the Big Man. Highlights have included winning the West of Scotland Cup, away trips to Hull and Watford and numerous cuffings of the mankies. Low points have been any defeat we've suffered (the final of the Scottish Cup being a particularly sore one to take), and having to share a room with Bungle on the trip down to Watford (you've not heard snoring like it!). |
