Brave Killie Lose Out!

  Dunfermline 2 Kilmarnock 1

(SPL Match 30, East End Park, Apr 3rd 2004, KO 3:00 PM)

Dunfermline came from behind to claim victory thanks to goals from Barry Nicholson and Stevie Crawford.

Danny Invincibile prodded the ball home following a goalmouth scramble in a first-half dominated by the visitors, for his 4th goal in 3 matches.

But Dunfermline captain Barry Nicholson headed the equaliser just before half-time and Stevie Crawford broke clear to drive home the winner.

The goal settled the Pars and they held out to keep the pressure on third-top Hearts for a Uefa Cup place.

Kilmarnock had left out last week's early goalscorer, Craig Dargo, with Kris Boyd and Danny Invincibile (now fit) starting in attack.

Dunfermline started without injured influential former Rangers defender Scott Wilson.

Replacement Andy Tod came close to giving Dunfermline an early lead, heading narrowly over from a Greg Shields cross.

But Killie snatched the lead after nine minutes after some poor defending.

Pars goalkeeper Derek Stillie failed to collect Eric Skora's cross to the back post.

Stillie managed to palm clear Kris Boyd's close-range header but Invincibile was on hand to drive home from 10 yards.

Derek Young missed a chance to equalise, screwing his shot on the turn wide from 12 yards after being set up by Stevie Crawford.

Derek Stillie had to push a powerful 25-yard free-kick from Skora over the bar.

Killie were coping better with the treacherous conditions, but Dunfermline equalised against the run of play.

Craig Brewster's header sent Derek Young clear and his high cross found Nicholson rising unchallenged to head home from 12 yards.

Brewster created the first chance after the break, his lovely through ball finding Derek Young only for the midfielder to drive across the face of goal and just wide of the far post.

Dunfermline were looking brighter as sunshine dried conditions and Crawford broke clear to slot the ball home and give the home side the lead with 20 minutes remaining.

Killie finished the game with 5 forwards on the park as they went looking for the equalizer, with a Boyd header going just over from a Skora delivery being the closest they came. Nish also managed to get stuck in an earn a yellow card , having only been on the park 3 min's!

Kilmarnock: Meldrum, Lilley, Greer, Dindeleux, Hay, (Dargo 75 mins) Fowler, (Nish 84 mins) Locke, Skora, Murray, (McSwegan 78 mins) Boyd, Invincibile.
Subs: Smith & Dodds

Attendance: 3,914
