It may have been a friendly, but the visitors brought with them no
shortage of quality internationals, such as Teddy Sheringham, Yakuba
Aiyegbeni, Boris Zivkovic, Dejan Stefanovic and Patrik Berger.
Four minutes was all it took Aiyegbeni to barge through a sleepy
defence and side-footing home. Then Zivkovic, signed from Leverkusen,
crossed for Sheringham and a universal cheer complimented his perfect
execution. The Nigerian then collected his second thanks to his pace and
power.
There were Killie home debuts for hard-working Martin Hardie and other
recent new signing, the Australian, Danny Invincible. His first few
touches were more comic than hero. He did get in to good scoring
positions twice but lacked the required edge to net a consolation.
The visitors added two more deserved strikes with 15 minutes
remaining courtesy of a Sean Hessey own goal and a low Steve Stone
drive. At the end both sides trudged off with seagulls squawking
overhead, as they did the visitors could easily have mistaken this for a
sizeable home win.
