Player Profile: 03 - Barry McLaughlin

Full Name: Barry McLaughlin

Nickname: Trigger/Baz

Position: Defender Centre

Date of Birth: 19th April 1973

Birth Place: Paisley

Height: 6ft 1ins

Weight: 13st 1lbs

Former Clubs: St Mirren

Signed for Killie: 15th May 2002

Contract Ends: 15th May 2005

Notes: Trigger spent almost the whole of his career at St Mirren and was well liked by the fans there making over 147 appearances in an eleven year spell. He was the club captain when Jim Jefferies brought him to Killie for a reputed sum of £30,000...such is the transfer market these days when a club's best player can leave for that amount! Barry is a no-nonsense centre half and has established himself as a first team regular. He does have the odd injury problem but there's been nothing too serious so far.

Fan's Comments

light blue wig: He's never let us down since he arrived. Slots in well when he appears. Maybe a run in the team would help him but I still see him behind Freddie, Shields and Innes in the starting line up.

Suzy: A steady defender who can be depended on. Would like to see him feature more this season.

bluehand: Barry has yet to make his mark at Killie. We are blessed in the defenders department and he will find it hard to claim a first team place, but is more than capable in doing so if given the chance. Nice lad who deserves the chance at this level.

Killie 75: Barry is a good defender that always gives 100% when he plays. He was unlucky with injuries last season.

debz_ehg2: Not a bad defender but from what JJ has said not too good at giving out commands! Yet another in the 'nice guy to talk to' category!

alan g: Barry seems a decent enough player, he'll have to work hard for a place, which can only be a good thing. My three year old daughter loves him to bits...

FuNsTeR: Good strong defender...but spent a fair amount of last season on the sidelines, hopefully he can stay injury free so that he can prove his worth to the team.

minikillie: Good player - St Mirren fans were gutted when he left. No wonder, always reliable, solid and hopes we see him in the first team more this year.

qwerty: Well ahead of Innes in the pecking order and I feel he plays well beside Freddy Dindeleux who is back to his best this season. Solid, reliable, workmanlike, all adjectives used to describe someone who can't play football, but McLaughlin can. He has a good sense of awareness when in possession of the ball and does not waste many passes, a good trait not often found in a defender, watch him closely the next time he starts and you'll see what I mean.

chuckle2: basher = solid, enough said....

Killie_Damo: Great signing - gives us the power beside Freddie elegance. Look forward to him getting more of a run this season.

Killie Paddy: Good solid defender, also has a lot of experience, scored a good late equaliser against the dons last season.
