FC Killie Ladies on International Duty

The Scotland Women's squad for the two A Internationals against Australia and Italy were named last week by national coach Vera Pauw. The matches were due to be played at Livingston's City Stadium between 6th and 9th September. There were four FC Kilmarnock players named but just to emphasise the swing in power in the SWPL no fewer than nine Hibs players were also called up. The big surprise to killiefc.com was the exclusion of Killie captain Shelley Kerr who is currently regarded as one of if not the best players in Scotland.

Midfielders Megan Sneddon & Jo Love

Scotland's first match was against Australia on Saturday 6th with a 12 noon kick-off and unfortunately they went on to lose by a single goal conceded early doors. All four Killie Ladies in the squad  were in the starting eleven and finished the match as well. Claire Johnstone, Megan Sneddon, Julie Smith and Joanne Love were the FC Killie representatives.

Italy were the visitors last night (Tuesday 9th September) with a 7.30 pm evening kick off (it's worth noting that admission to both matches was £3 and £1 for kids) but the home side were gubbed 4-0, the exact same score they had against the Italians in January. Pauw and assistant coach Betty Bavagnoli, noted before the game: "Italy beat us 4-0 in January and the match on Tuesday will indicate what progress we have made and what we still need to achieve. It is a vital preparation match for our continuing UEFA qualification campaign."

Also on the international front, Sarah Hough starred in the Scotland Under 19 match away to Northern Ireland but the youngsters could only come away with a 1-1 draw.
