Boomer Sets His Sights
Kris Boyd, the young Kilmarnock striker, talks
about his personal goals and some of his influences...
This Seasons Goal...."My
target at the beginning of the season was to at
least match last year’s total, It’s vital for me as a striker to be on
the scoresheet, but really I am more worried about the team winning,
which we haven’t been doing enough of lately. We have had to be patient
recently and nobody likes that too much. I’d say it has been hard
because we haven’t had a settled team. I’ve played with so many
different strikers, you know. We’ve used more than Rangers and Celtic.
But still, we always feel we can beat anybody. Hearts on Sunday is going
to be a big game for us because we need to follow up the
Dundee result with some more good ones."
On
Ian Durrant..."Durranty helps me and explains how I
can make things better for myself, and
hopefully I can become a better striker. I always feel that when I’m
fit I should be starting games rather than needing to be coming off
the bench. But there has been competition among the strikers here, with
the guys the manager has brought in. It’s a fresh challenge, but that
makes it better in a way."
Keeping Tabs on Pedro (Canero)...."I’ve
spoken to
Peter
a few times and I wish him all the best, and I hope that it can be a
good move for him and for Scotland’s benefit, Peter and James McFadden
have shown that, as young boys, if you keep playing away it can happen
for you.
"At the moment it’s good to be settled here and be part of the plans.
It’s difficult, because if a club like Wolves is interested in you that
is also a good thing. Interest from larger clubs does give you something
to think about.
"But I’m only 20 years old, and so long as I can keep playing well
enough for Kilmarnock, I am going to be noticed anyway."
Jim Jefferies on Boyd ...."He
is always capable of coming up with a goal out of nothing".
Kris Boyd will be intent again on getting his name noticed on the
scoresheet against Hearts this afternoon.
His haul for the season so far is eight goals and
the tall striker has set a target of at least equalling his total of 12
from last season, when he succeeded in becoming the first Kilmarnock
footballer to reach double figures since
Paul Wright did it
in 1998. Of the eight goals Boyd has managed this term, four of them can
be regarded as match-winners.
The youngster has signed a contract extension a
year ago that will keep Kris at Rugby park till 2006.
