Peter Canero was involved in what some might describe as the turning point of the
Motherwell
game on Sat when before the
break when he brought down Motherwell striker David Clarkson as the Fir
Park man bore down on the Killie goal with only keeper Francois Dubourdeau
to beat.
Canero said: "The
conditions were hard in terms of trying to keep your feet so I think that
went in my favour.
Referee Mike McCurry took no action against Canero save
for awarding a free-kick against him which came to nothing for the angry
visitors.
"It could have been a booking or even a sending-off but at the
same time I went for the ball.
"I felt as if I got a wee bit of the ball but at the same time
I did come through him. But it was one of those situations where I had to
make the challenge.
"He made the run from deep and was going through on goals so I
was quite happy to concede a free-kick rather than a goal."

On his goal...."I'm
delighted with the goal. I came inside and looked up and thought I'd go
with my left foot and I was just delighted to score it.
On getting into the full Scotland side..."I
thoroughly enjoyed my time with the U21s and obviously the next step
is the full national team
"But all I can do is keep on doing well and progressing at the
club and I'm sure goals like that will help.
"If the manager (Bertie V) takes an interest in me
and gives me a chance, that's all I can hope for."
On Killie's form..."Now that Gordon has settled in, he's looked very solid at the
back and it's helped the back four.
"If we can stop losing daft goals then when we go one or two nil up, it
makes it easier not to throw it away.
"Beating Thistle last week and then Motherwell shows we are picking up
points now and pushing for that top six so hopefully it can continue."
