Closed Door Game Report
Killie headed for
Grangemouth to face Falkirk in a closed door game on wednesday afternoon.
The game was played at the BP sportsground at Little Kerse, an impressive
place that is used by Falkkirk for training and would make an ideal Youth
Academy venue. Wimp and myself managed to sweet talk the guy on the gate
to let us in and we headed to spy on the four trialists who were playing
for Killie. We dont have full info on them but we'll give you their "lookalikes"
and you can google all night to dig for more details. Here's a player by
player rundown
1. Graham Smith - Young goalie was confident and never stooped roaring
trying to organise at the back - not easy with two trialists in front of
him. Good save from O'Neil free kick and can be pleased with his day's
work.
2. Gordon Greer - Started in right back of a back four but never looked
totally at ease. Moved to centre back when Bakari went off and looked far
more comfortable.
3. Darren Barnard - The Welsh international played at left back and has a
good left peg on him. Showed his experience throughout without doing
anything really eye-catching.
4. Omar Bakari - Stunt double for Patrick Vieira, good in air, good on
ground, pacy and strong tackler - get him signed. Looks like he could
comfortably play midfield or defence.
5. Miguel ???? - Peter Andre lookalike - frenchman played beside Bakari at
heart of defence. Scored goal and played okay but would need to see him
again. Not sure if centre back is his normal position. No idea who he
played with previously.
6. Ryan Dodds - started quietly but played well for most of the opening
period. One great run that nearly gave Wales another goal. Was subbed at
half time when Canning came on.
7. Eric ???? - Emmanuel Petit lookalike including the same pony tail
haircut. Played in centre of midfield and his passing and touch on the
ball were outstanding in the first half. Just sat in middle of park and
sprayed passes all around. Looked in need of match fitness. He's Freddy's
brother in law(honest) and was released by Ghent in Belgium.
8. Peter Leven - Left sided midfielder with a good looking left peg also.
Again looked a yard short of match fitness and should improve with more
games.
9. Craig Dargo - Tried 100% as alwys but was fairly quiet. Just recovered
from groin strain so will take a wee while to gain full fitness.\
10. Gary Wales - Played well, busy player in Dargo mould - held ball up
well and always looking for the ball. Could be a good signing.
11. Stephen Naismith - Played wide left in first half, always looking for
the ball and trying to get behind the full back. Did very well to set up
Wales goal.
12. Mark Canning - replaced Dodds on right side midfield and played well.
Several strong runs and had a good shot saved by Ferguson.
13. Fraser Logan - replaced naisy at half time and put in a good shift
wide left. Sent in a few decent crosses and could be one for the future.
14. Neil McGregor replaced Bakari in 52mins and played right back with
Greer moving into middle. Strong in the tackle and always looking to
support Canning.
All in all in good days work and all four trialists did pretty well,
Bakari was the pick of them until going off with a slight groin strain it
looked like. We scored in 4 mins when Peter Andre headed home unchallenged
from a Leven corner. Second goal in 33 mins started with a great 40 yard
pass from Petit. Naisy beat the full back and rolled the ball under the
diving goalie - Wales rolled in from 2 yards.
Finally thanks to big Roy
for giving me a lift and helping with the match report - I think we were
the only two Killie fans there.
