Boyd's Record Comes To An End!

  Dundee 3 Kilmarnock 1

(SPL Match 9, Dens Park, Oct 16th 2004, KO: 3:00PM)

Kris Boyd's record of never having been on the losing side for Killie, when he scored came to an abrupt end this afternoon. Despite coring first for Killie in the 5th min, Killie failed to take advantage of their superior play before Dee against the run of play levelled through Robb in 30 mins.

An early Lovell back-post header lacked conviction and went wide of the target before the visitors broke up the park and opened the scoring.

Dundee defender Brent Sancho hesitated in possession and was robbed by Craig Dargo, who toe-poked the ball through to Kris Boyd.

The Killie striker shrugged off the attentions of Dundee defender Steven Robb, rounded goalkeeper Derek Soutar and, from an acute angle, slammed the ball into the net. (above)

Lovell tested Kilmarnock goalkeeper Alan Combe with a powerful 25-yard drive, but the Rugby Park number one saved confidently.

A Gary Locke corner from the left was headed out by Dundee defender Bobby Mann and Dargo returned a volley from 16 yards that dipped just over the bar, as Killie turned the screw.

Dundee got an equaliser out of the blue on the half-hour mark, somewhat against the run of play.

Defender Robb beat James Fowler comfortably just inside the box before driving a 20-yard shot into the far corner of the net past Combe.

The home side came close to taking the lead when Smith picked up a Neil Barrett pass 25 yards from goal and drove a powerful shot just inches over the bar.

Just before the break Peter Leven was stretchered off with a bad ankle knock and was replaced by Dillon.

Neither side had threatened much after the break before Dundee went in front after 63 minutes.

Lovell was set free down the left and his powerful angled drive from 20 yards was parried by Combe, who could only watch the ball trundle towards the goal-line.

Kilmarnock defender Freddie Dindeleux raced with Sutton, but it was the striker who got his foot in first to knock the ball over the line from a yard out.

Anderson added Dundee's third after 87 minutes, on a break-away as Killie pushed forward for the equaliser.

Kilmarnock: Combe, Fowler, Lilley, Dindeleux, Invincibile, Locke, Leven (45 mins Dillon) McDonald, Dargo (Joly 72 mins), Murray (Nish 54 mins) Boyd.

Subs: Smith, Ford, Canning, Greer

Attendance: 4,637
