Player Profile: Simon Ford

Full Name: Simon Ford

Nickname: Unknown

Squad No: 18

Position: Defender Centre

Date of Birth: 17th November 1984

Birth Place: Forestgate

Height: 6ft 0ins

Former Clubs: Charlton, Grimsby

Signed for Killie: 15th October 2004

Contract Ends: May 2005

Notes: Simon Ford originally came through the ranks at Charlton but never made it into the first team. He moved to Grimsby at the start of the 2001-02 season and made 64 appearances (plus 14 as a sub), scoring four goals in the process. Freed in August of 2004 he went on trial at Bristol Rovers and at Killie but despite getting an injury he impressed Jim Jefferies enough to offer him a short-term contract as cover up until Christmas. There was something dodgy about his registration (we think he turned out for an amateur team at some point) which meant that Killie had to allegedly sign him onto the books as a gardener until he got clearance to sign for real. Whatever the case, that is the way legend will tell it! Simon does not look like a big strong centre half but it has not been to his disadvantage so far. He does the simple things well which is a must for a centre half and yet seems to be able to play a bit. He is also blessed with a fair amount of pace which means when there are mistakes made he is not long in tracking back.

Contract extension... After the 27/12/4 Home Dundee win, in which Simon headed home a fine goal, he was rewarded with an extended contract through May 2005.
