Nish Looking Forward To Boydie Compedition

Kilmarnock striker Colin Nish has told the Rugby Park supporters that he is doing everything he can to win them over.

The Killie fans clearly see Kris Boyd as their number one choice up front and he did his popularity no harm by grabbing five goals in one game against Dundee United earlier in the season.

At that time, Nish was kicking his heels on the sidelines after missing the early part of the campaign through injury and waiting for his chance in the top team again.

That chance came when Boyd picked up a knee injury in training last Monday which meant he had to go under the knife and contemplate the prospect of around six weeks recovering from the operation.

Nish grabbed the opportunity with both hands, netting the only goal of the game against Motherwell midweek before bagging a double against Hibernian on Saturday.

Now he hopes the supporters can see that he is giving his all for the club.

He said: "I always work hard when I'm playing - at least that's what I think. Maybe they don't see it that way but I always do.

"I can only give 100% and see what happens.

"It was great to get six points from the last two games and nice to score a few goals as well."

Despite his goalfest this week, Nish is realistic enough to realise that he faces a fight to hold onto his place when Boyd is back to full fitness again.

But the big striker admits he has been so impressed by his team-mate this season that he could not really complain if he lost out to Boyd when manager Jim Jefferies makes his team selections.

He said: "Once Boydy is back there will be competition for places and that's good for the team.

"He's not the easiest man in the world to keep out of the team when he is scoring goals for fun.

"He is a great player and you don't mind being second best to someone if they're a great player. It's when they're not that you know you're struggling."
