Killiefc.com In Brush With Combe Oh dear, the puns have started already! Jim Jefferies ended his search for a new number one when he signed 30 year old Alan Combe on a 2 year deal with a 1 year option. Chairman Jamie Moffat and manager Jefferies fronted a press conference this afternoon to introduce their latest acquisition to the press.
Jamie said: "We are delighted that Alan has elected to sign for Kilmarnock. Jim has been on the lookout for an experienced goalkeeper and Alan was right up there on his short list." Jefferies added: "I'd like to welcome Alan on board. As you know we have been looking to shore up the defence and I'm sure that Alan will do a great job for us. We looked at several goalkeepers and had a few options, but this deal seemed the best one for the club."
He went on: "I had a chance meeting with Andy Rhodes who had been coaching Alan and he gave him rave reviews. We checked him out for ourselves and were impressed enough to enquire about his availability from Bradford and fortunately we were able to bring him to the club."
Combe said: "I'm delighted to have signed for a great club like Kilmarnock. My situation down South is well documented and I don't ant to dwell on that too much I'd rather look to the future. I had one year left on my contract but with Bradford in administration, with possibly only seven days left, I was basically a free agent."
He added: "I had never met Jim (Jefferies) before but I had heard a few stories about him. Good stories of course! We entered negotiations two or three weeks ago and have been talking ever since, but I'm positive that this is the right move and the right club for me.
"When I made my big move down south I always imagined that I'd move back to Scotland one day, it's just happened sooner than I expected. I've had a few challenges in my career and this is a totally new one.
"I'm only 30 and hopefully I will have a few more challenges ahead but this one will do for now. I'm not thinking about getting into the Scotland squad just yet but I certainly would be interested, right now though I'd rather concentrate on getting into the Kilmarnock squad!"
