I’ve always believed the unofficial website
is a great thing where people can air their views and ease the
frustrations of being a Killie supporter, and how easily that
frustration can change with a victory. I do believe though that
there
are some issues raised via the website that are at best, imaginative
spins on half truths gleaned from whatever source, or a deliberate
attempt to undermine this great club that we are so passionate
about.
With that in mind I’d like to put the
record straight on two issues which have called into question my
personal integrity as an individual, but more importantly if left
unchallenged, have the potential to inflict damage to the Club. When
the sports bar project was first muted, I stated that the
development cost would be covered by brewery funding via the
sponsorship arrangement.
The development investment was initially
taken as part of a term loan but will be recouped via the
sponsorship, initially with a 5 year commitment, but indicated via
Scottish Courage to be extended to the 10 year life of the
association. This “sponsorship” is offset by Scottish Courage
against the amount of beer we buy from them via the Hotel and Sports
bar (the wholesale profit). All retail profits
generated by the Sports Bar and indeed the Park Hotel go directly to
the Club. The sponsorship investment will cover the cost of the
sports bar development over the term of the agreement.
The other non truth doing the rounds is
that Jamie Moffat and I have done some sort of deal to put the
burden back on to the Club should we choose not to fulfil the
brewery tie. Nothing could be further from the truth. As with
all these arrangements the Brewer protects themselves against
companies or individuals taking the money and then putting in a
competitor’s product, selling off the facility, or by stopping
payments. This is done via a charge over the property or business or
via a guarantee.
In line with the Belhaven agreement, the
guarantee is via a personal guarantee by Jamie Moffat with no
burden on KFC. For the record I can also advise that in my 15
years in the licensed trade, I have never secured a better price for
beer supplies than the one secured from Scottish Courage.
With regard to my response to the question
at the AGM on walk ups, I list below the facts on an average like
for like basis as far as possible, with the 04/05 away average
reduced mainly due to Inverness compared against Partick where there
were almost 1000 less visitors. The comparison exercise is obviously
taken over a season , and I will provide that come May, but with
just 8 homes games gone it gives an indication that on the whole the
walk up figure is better than last year.

Much of the decline in like for like crowd
averages can be attributable to the 2,000 fewer at the game V Celtic
and 1,000 less on the Inverness/Partick comparison.
Hopefully this puts some of the myths spun
by some fans to bed, but if they or anyone else wish to come to see
me, and many have, to discuss this or any other burning issues, my
door and direct e-mail
dmackinnon@kilmarnockfc.co.uk are
always open. But could I respectfully ask, please give your real
name and don’t hide behind a pseudonym - You know it makes sense.
