Bad Run Against Jambos Continues Kilmarnock
0 - 1 Hearts Most reserve games are pretty entertaining affairs with plenty of goalmouth action - this was pants. Nish was down in the starting 11 but never showed, pre-match injury we reckon. Killie fielded trialist Simon Ford at centre back and the ex-Charlton and Grimsby man got pass marks from Baz and me - but we would want to see him again before offering a contract. Hearts scored the only goal on the stroke of half time when Elliot nodded in from close range after a Murtagh shot rebounded from the bar. A rumour doing the rounds is that Samson has been fired as a goalie but has been appointed Manager of the Park Hotel - its the best publicity they've ever had!! Rather than a match report I'll give a rundown on the players as there was nothing much to report. G. Smith - Played okay but the game could have been played without keepers and it wouldn't have made much difference. The big man looks confident and I'd have no worries about him in the 1st team if Combe is away on international duty! N. McGregor - Played right back and will need a little time to settle into that role. Strong lad who should be pushing first team when he gains more experience. P. Leven - Played left back and didn't look natural in that position. Was a little more prominent when pushed into midfield during 2nd half but quiet overall. Seems a wee bit lacking in pace. G. Greer - Played okay but still not as commanding as he should be. Was booked in second half for gabbing to ref although one wag thought he was booked for being a f*d. A. Trialist - Played beside Greer, won fair share of headers, read game well but didn't look too strong in the tackle. Comfortable with ball at feet and used it well enough - would like to see again. R. Dodds - Played wide right and tried his best but it was "one of those nights" both for him and the team in general. M. Canning - Not his best night's
work - gave the ball away far too much and failed to support the front men
when required. R. Campbell - Probably our best player, certainly in the first half. Made some positive runs and put in a few dangerous crosses. Subbed in 2nd half, perhaps a shade unfortunately. S. Naismith - worked hard as ever
and had two decent efforts in the first half. Took a couple of knocks and
was subbed midway through 2nd half. Subs - Hamill, Sloan and Loy all came on but never really made much impact. Hearts were well organised, physical and very
boring. Scored with a rare attack but to be fair never really looked like
losing a goal. They had Jamie McAllister sent off in the dying minutes for
a second booking. The referee was a total walloper. Killie were unable to
field Ford as an amateur as it would cause problems if we wanted to sign
him permanently. Our mole tells us he is currently employed as a
"gardener", this allows us to sign him should we wish. Let the gags
commence...
