Revenge Mission For Reserves

Kilmarnock 1 - 0 Inverness CT
(SPL Under 21 match - Rugby Park, 12th April 2005, Kick Off 14:00)

With the reserve games still being held at the not very fan-friendly time of 2:00pm only 41 brave punters headed to Rugby Park. It was basically a youth team game with only Graeme Smith bringing some first team experience.

Killie were bright early on with both Campbell and Coyne showing prominently as Killie pushed forward at every opportunity. In 15 minutes Coyne brought a fine save from Jonathan Smith and two minutes later the keeper did well again blocking a shot from Gino Invincibile. Danny's brother was named rather than just showing as 'trialist', so he may well have signed a short term deal.

Graeme Smith was a passenger and had no serious action in the opening half. Loy and Masterton were making positive runs into the visitors area and it looked like a matter of time before we scored. A neat flick from Invincibile released Coyne but the young striker's shot was well saved again by Smith.

Half time arrived with the loyal 41 wondering why Killie had failed to hit the pokey. The second half was one minute old when Smith made yet another fine save, once again denying Coyne.

Killie finally made the breakthrough after 58 minutes through half time substitute Lewis Sloan. Masterton played a cross from the right that Sloan struck sweetly but Smith made another fine save. The ball broke loose and Sloan followed up to drive into the net.

After the goal the visitors started to threaten at last however Smith didn't have a proper save to make during the whole game. Sloan went close again firing over the bar after a neat move involving Invincibile and Masterton. The youngster had another chance minutes later but as you may guess, it was well saved by Smith.

Overall a decent performance by Killie with Loy, Masterton and Coyne doing sterling work. Invincibile put in a decent shift but he ain't as good as Danny.
Jonathan Smith was easily the visitors top player with Sutherland doing his best in the middle of the park. Yellow cards were dished out to Killie's Cochrane (Beaker to his friends) and Loy whilst Sutherland and McAllister were booked for Inverness.

Kilmarnock: Smith, McGregor (Griffin 45), Noble (Mort 80), Cochrane, Wild, Johnstone, Masterton, Loy, Invincibile, Coyne, Campbell (Sloan 45)
Subs (not used): Adams

Inverness CT: Smith (McIntyre 81), Watson, Kerr, Hendry, Jarvie, Soame (Munro 80), Finnigan, Sutherland, McAllister, Donald, Tulloch (Rutherford 65)
Subs (not used): MacLaren
