High Flying Hibees Halted

Hibernian 2 - 2 FC Killie Ladies
(SWPL15 - Glasgow Green, 10th May 2006, 19:30 Kick Off)

FC Killie Ladies played unbeaten league leaders Hibs on Wednesday night at Dalkeith and the match finished 2-2. Hibs came back twice and also missed a penalty but Killie had several chances and both goalkeepers were up to the task.

Scorers for Killie were Jo Cooper and Bev McLaughlin with Debbie McWhinnie grabbing both goals for Hibernian. Killie were without the injured Pauline MacDonald and Becky Stokes who is on International duty* with the Rep. of Ireland squad, so manager Malky Boyle was forced to make changes to the side.

However, it was a great team performance with all players fighting for a cup final starting place, and will feel aggrieved to have left with only a point.

The SWPL League Cup Final takes place this coming Sunday at Starks Park in Kirkcaldy, kick off 17.30hrs. The opposition is Glasgow City and it is sure to be a great game.

FC Kilmarnock Ladies Team: Mills, Smith (c), Burns, Quinn, Hughes (A.McDonald 55), Love, K.McLaughlin, Fowler, Docherty (Davies 89), Cooper, B.McLaughlin.
Subs (unused): Woods, Forsyth, Torrance.

*On the international front Jo Love scored for Scotland as they beat the Republic of Ireland 2-0 away from home which takes them up to third in the World Cup qualifying group behind Russia and Germany. She scored in 47 minutes from a move which started deep in Scotland's half with some excellent build up play involving Love herself, Nicky Grant, Julie Smith, Suzanne Grant and then finally Julie Fleeting, who set up Love with a one on one with the goalkeeper which she duly despatched into the net.
