Killie had won the league encounter 10 days previously, the 3-2
scoreline not being a fair reflection of their dominance.

But it was the Pars who began more positively this time and
goalkeeper Alan Combe had to turn a Scott Thomson shot around the post.
McCunnie silenced the home fans with a terrific swerving shot from 25
yards to put the visitors ahead after just six minutes.
Young headed the second goal from Liam Horsted's left-wing cross two
minutes later.
And the Ayrshire side's problems increased when Young shot past Combe
from 15 yards.
Horsted then ran clear and shot just wide of Combe's left-hand post.
Kilmarnock brought
on David Lilley for captain Gary Locke in the 37th minute as manager Jim
Jefferies attempted to improve his defence.
Striker Naismith was brought into the action in the second half and
it paid off when the 19-year-old set up Kris
Boyd, who tapped into the empty net from five yards.
Boyd almost grabbed a second when his net-bound shot was blocked -
then a Naismith shot flew wide with Colin Nish almost getting a touch.
But a quick break on the right by Horsted in the 64th minute gave
Young his hat-trick and restored Dunfermline's three-goal lead.
Killie hit back, though, and Naismith was again the provider as his
cross was turned into his own net by Wilson.
The home side went in search of a third goal to edge them nearer an
amazing comeback.
They did get another through a Kris
Boyd free-kick, but there were only seconds remaining and
Dunfermline went through to the next round.
