The home side made a bright start and Jim Hamilton almost got in at the back post, but his goal-bound header was deflected behind by Frazer Wright.

However, the visitors snatched the lead with their very first threatening move in the ninth minute.

Steven Naismith found Johnston on the left and he swung in an inviting cross for Kris Boyd to head home his tenth goal of the season.

The goal seemed to sap the confidence and ideas out of Motherwell, until McDonald came to their rescue in the 24th minute.

The Australian striker held off a challenge from a Kilmarnock defender and latched onto Hamilton's knock-down, from Martyn Corrigan's cross, to steer the ball past Alan Combe from just five yards out.

The Motherwell supporters were furious just after the break when Gordon Greer appeared to wrestle McDonald to the ground in the area but referee Kenny Clark waved play on.

However, Clark did give the home side a free-kick moments later - when Hamilton was fouled by Ford just outside the box - and that proved decisive.

Brian Kerr, who scored a stunning goal last week, stepped up again to curl a right-foot effort over the wall and past Combe into the top corner.

Naismith was the next to go closest for Killie, out jumping the Well rear-guard to head on to the roof of the net. Then Boyd shot over with Naismith open at the far post.

The home fans were on their feet again in the 77th minute when they thought Hamilton had scored from close range, only to realise he had fired into the side-netting.

The Motherwell frontman again squandered a great chance to kill the game off with eight minutes remaining, firing to Combe's left, however the Killie keeper pulled off an invaluable stop to keep Killie in it.

Kerr came agonisingly close to scoring another cracker but he watched his right-foot free-kick beat Combe again but this time come back off the other post.

The fourth official added to the anxiety by signalling four minutes of injury time.

Invincibile then had a shot deflected off a Well players ankle for a corner, that Nish headed onto the roof of the Well net!

But Killie's relentless pressure paid off in the 93rd min when Kris Boyd scored a dramatic added-time equaliser by forcing the ball past Smith at the third attempt from Stephen Murray's cross. .... Justice had been done!!
