General manager Davie Mackinnon confirmed to the Killie Supporters'
Association members tonight that star striker Kris Boyd had rejected a
move to Welsh side Cardiff. Having already agreed personal terms with
the English league club and passed a medical it looked as if his
transfer would be imminent, but a change of heart by Boomer has kyboshed
the move.
Mackinnon said: "Our reasons for selling the player are well
documented, its all about money. We would love Kris to sign a new deal
at Kilmarnock but if he does not do so then he can walk away at the end
of the season for virtually nothing, and in our situation it would be
unwise for us to let that happen."

He continued: "The situation regarding compensation is as clear as
mud. We have contacted the relevant authorities on numerous occasions to
get clarification on exactly how much, if anything, we would be due, but
as yet we are still in the dark. From what we can gather though, it does
not look favourable, and any compensation would be in the tens of
thousands rather than the hundreds which is not good business for
Kilmarnock Football Club".
With only days left until the transfer window closes it looks as
webmaster Auld can re-file the 'Do You Remember...Kris Boyd' for another
few month yet. That is unless Preston's Billy Davies, who has punted
Cresswell for £1M and has expressed an interest in a swap deal for Skora
plus cash, decides to make a late bid. A move to the north of England
may seem like a better prospect to Boomer.
Davie Mac stated: "Taking the financial implications aside this is
good news for Kilmarnock. The fans know what they can expect from the
big man and we want him to stay. At no point did he refuse to sign a new
deal because of the money on offer. Kris made it clear from the start
that he was happy to remain at Rugby Park to learn his trade, and is in
no rush to move on; but if a good English Premiership or Championship
side come calling then it is understandable that he would want to talk
to them."
"It says a lot for the player that he has decided not to go to
Cardiff and regards Kilmarnock as a better option to further his career.
The situation has not really changed that much but you can rest assured
that we will be after him with a pen tomorrow to try and get him to sign
that two year extension! Jim Jefferies will have no worries about
sticking him straight back in the team. He is a big honest lad and we
know that he will give it 100% whenever he pulls on a strip for Killie."

Derek Riordan, who was also being courted by Cardiff City, has also
apparently knocked them back. His manager has been quoted as saying that
the player will not be considered for first team duty now that he has
declared his intention to leave...but it is doubtful that Killie manager
Jim Jefferies will treat Boyd, who has been the top goalscorer at Rugby
park for the last three seasons, with the same disdain. Killie have got
a decent squad of players, and no doubt we will survive when Boydie
finally moves on; but no one is kidding themselves that if he is here we
can afford to leave him cooling his heels on the bench. If no other move
materialises... expect to see him leading the line against Livi on
Saturday.
