The
ineptitude of some Scottish referees was there for all to see at
Tannadice on Saturday and the governing bodies quite rightly also take a
lot of stick due to crazy match scheduling etc. but those in charge of
the women's game in this country make our lot seem almost sane! FC
Killie Ladies drew
4-4 away to
Hamilton in the Scottish Cup last week and were due to re-play the match
this weekend...or so they thought.
A club
insider tells us that when the match finished a draw last week, both
sides insisted that the referee allow them to play extra time and
penalties (if needed)...but he was having none of it! He stated that the
SWF had told him that it was a 90 minute game and that unless either
side could produce a full set of written Scottish Cup rules there and
then (in the centre circle) that the game was over. He even allegedly
admitted on the day that he did not know what the rules were.
Subsequently he blamed the two teams in the match report for the
farce...and the SWF believed him over two long established clubs and
over 40 supporters who witnessed his blundering. The result being that
both side were fined £100 and ordered to play the 30 minutes extra time
before this coming Thursday, starting with the same players they
finished the 90 minutes with on the day. Hard to believe eh?
Even
harder to believe given that three of FC Kilmarnock's players will be
away on international duty all week in Finland and that the Ayrshire
side may be forced to start with only eight players! And so it
transpires that the sides will face off for half an hour at Ardeer from
19:00 to 19:30 on Wednesday night. There is an outside chance that some
of the players may even have the time to get their boots dirty. The word
farcical springs to mind. If the SWF really want the game to take off in
this country then they will really have to try and get their house in
order...and do it soon.
