Huns Go Nap Against League Leaders Kilmarnock
0 - 5 Rangers Torrential rain all night, the loss of a first minute goal and a referee called Richard Gough (no joking) - I should have known this was going to be a stinking night at Steak Pie Central. The West stand had more than its fair share of cheap Burberry and back street tattoos as a healthy away crowd swelled the numbers to 711. I had barely planked my fat butt when ex Arsenal Reserves, Charlton reserves and Everton Reserves striker Jeffers made his mark for his new reserve team. A hopeful punt down the middle was flicked on and the striker slid it under the onrushing Smith. Conditions were dreadful and 20 yard slide tackles were the norm. Jamie Hamill was injured in the 11th minute after a hefty 50/50 tackle with Malcolm who was also injured. Killie were having their fair share of possession but were not really penetrating whilst Rangers looked threatening on quick breaks. Jeffers had a shot well saved by Smith before Malcolm and Leven fired free kicks over the bar at either end. Killie produced the best move of the game in 33 minutes which ended with O'Leary crossing to Loy who fired narrowly wide from 15 yards. O'Leary was then booked for SFA before the visitors went two up. A break on the left wing saw Smith drive in to the box and sending in a low cross which Dillon slid into his own net. Killie should have pulled a goal back in 40 minutes. A quick free kick was played to Dodds who flicked on to Coyne but the youngster sliced his shot into the arms of Robinson. Burke's tricky runs were causing the home defence endless trouble and he set up Jeffers who again had his shot well saved by Smith. The second half started evenly but Rangers scored again in 52 minutes to effectively end the game. Nieto raced on to a through ball and drilled into the corner from the edge of the box. Five minutes later and it was four as Burke was pulled down in the box - Davidson smashed home the resultant spot kick. Nieto completed the scoring in 62 minutes when he rolled into an empty net after Jeffers had sprung the offside trap. Both sides had further chances but everyone looked like they would rather be somewhere a bit drier. Killie battled hard against the experienced
opposition with Campbell the best home player. Burke was best for the
visitors who had McGuessen booked late on.
