One Point As Reserves Pay The Penalty! Kilmarnock
2 - 2 Hibernian Killie fielded a mixture of youth and experience as the reserves looked to maintain their bright start to the season. Many of the younger players were making a quick reappearance after the youth game on Sunday but they acquitted themselves well. In the early stages chances were at a premium with defences well on top. Kounte had a chance for HIbs in 8 minutes but Wild blocked bravely as the striker fired a shot. Kounte then had two decent attempts within a minute. On 20 minutes the big striker lost his marker but Bell was quick off his line to block the shot. Bell then made a full length save as Kounte drilled a low shot from 15 yards. Killie's first decent effort was a Leven free kick that was easily held by Nelson. Killie almost took the lead on 41 minutes when Leven's cross was met by Loy but his shot smashed off the base of the post. Loy had another chance on the stroke of half time but his half volley flew miles wide. The referee obviously felt we needed goals so set about making making some baffling decisions. Firstly, in 57 minutes, he missed a Dillon handball but the linesman saw it and Morrow slotted home the spot kick. Murray then burst into the Hibs box and rolled the ball to Bryson to fire home - amazingly the ref had blown for a foul and disallowed the goal. From the resultant free kick Murray picked out Flannigan (64 mins) who curled home a beauty from 15 yards - justice. Two minutes later Shiels flung himself to the ground in the box and the only person who was fooled was the bungling official. Shiels waited until his blushes cleared before slotting home the penalty. Killie battled hard and finally got their reward, unsurprisingly from the spot. Bryson latched onto a short pass back and was then pole axed by the advancing keeper. No complaints about that decision and Dillon drilled home. Hibs came close to snatching a winner but Bell
tipped over McDonald's fierce drive. Murray, Adams and Bryson caught the
eye for Killie but there was a couple of injury worries. Lilley started
the game well but was taken off in 34 minutes, not sure what the injury
was. Leven went off with a leg injury and was in crutches after the game.
Finally thanks to John Gall for handing out free pies in the 2nd half!
