Reserves Pay Penalty Against 'Well Kilmarnock
1 - 3 Motherwell A healthy crowd turned out to see Polish trialist Pawel Buskiewicz in action for the first time as we faced Motherwell in a reserve fixture. The visitors also fielded two trialists and they were heavily involved in a hectic opening five minutes. Motherwell's trialist No.9 burst down the wing and crossed for Smith whose header cracked off the bar. The ball rebounded to McGuire who had the goal gaping but did a Nishy and missed when it looked easier to score. A minute later and Well's trialist no.7 had a shot saved by Smith who pushed the ball into the air before once again hitting the bar. Killie went straight down the pitch and Murray played in Leven but with only the keeper to beat the midfielder cracked his shot off Meldrum's legs. The game was going from end to end but it was the visitors who took the lead in 11 minutes with a fine solo effort. The lively McGuire waltzed past two defenders before rounding Smith and rolling the ball into the empty net. Killie were next to hit the woodwork when Di Giacomo's shot from a narrow angle cracked the base of the post. Killie's big trialist was coming more and more into the game by winning everything in the air and showing a nice touch on the deck. Killie drew level in 21 minutes following a lovely flowing move. Leven pinged in a pass to Buskiewicz who laid off a neat first time ball to Loy. The youngster burst into the box before playing a perfect lob over Meldrum and into the pokey. Motherwell won a penalty in the 36th minute that saw Jamie Adams get red carded for a handball on the line. The trialist no.9 saw his spot kick well saved by Smith however the game suffered as a spectacle for the remainder. The visitors started the second half brightly and took the lead in 47 minutes. McGuire picked up the ball on the edge of the box and his shot was deflected over the helpless Smith. Killie should have equalised two minutes later but Campbell ran on to another Buskiewicz flick and fired wide when he should have at least hit the target. The game was far less frantic now however Killie almost scored again in 62 minutes. Loy got to the byeline and pulled back for Buskiewicz who pulled his shot narrowly wide. Killie tired in the later stages and the big no.9 hit the post another twice before he sealed Well's victory with a close range shot after more good work from McGuire. A fairly entertaining game that was wasted when
killie went down to 10 men. Wild and Campbell played well for Killie along
with big Pawel who can be more than pleased with his contribution. The big
guy was mobile, good in the air and showed a deft touch for a big man -
I'm sure he has given JJ plenty of food for thought. McGuire put in an
excellent shift for the visitors and was a threat all night. Match Reporter: Sandy Armour |
