Reserves Rescue Point From Pars

Kilmarnock 1 - 1 Dunfermline
(SPL Reserve Match - Rugby Park, 8th February 2006, Kick Off 19:00)

Both teams chose lots of first team experience for the 150 hardy souls who chose to ignore the Champions League and turn out to watch "proper football". Kick off was delayed by 10 minutes then it transpired a linesman was running late. The game started with a big fat bloke (the one and only Louis Thow!) running the line before the "real linesman" turned up and took over.

Gordon Greer made his return after a lengthy injury and slotted in beside Lilley in the heart of defence. Robert Campbell was first to threaten when he got the bounce of the ball on the edge of the box but his low shot was comfortably saved by Halliwell.

Donnelly was first to threaten for the Pars but his 20 yard shot was well saved by Bell. Campbell was causing the visitors lots of problems with his strong running and his low cross should have been finished by Coyne who missed when it looked easier to score. Overall the first half was fairly level and a draw at half time was just about right.

Campbell was first to threaten again in the second half but his rasping drive was palmed behind by Halliwell. In 53 minutes the Pars took the lead after a big slice of luck. Gunnlaugsson tried his luck from the right side of the box but his shot took a huge deflection and dropped to Donnelly who nodded home from six yards.

The second half was more open and both sides had half chances but nobody could find the net. Noble and Lilley came close for Killie before they grabbed the equaliser 12 minutes from time. Campbell picked up the ball on the halfway line before taking off on a lung bursting run. The big striker burst into the box and picked out McDonald who coolly finished from 12 yards.

Both teams had chances to win the game in the closing minutes, McDonald was clean through on goal but Halliwell blocked his shot then Daquin headed into Bell's hands in the final minute. Killie created the better chances and probably should have won but the Pars fought hard and will be pleased with their point. Campbell was outstanding for Killie whilst Lilley looked very solid in defence. Young and Donnelly were the most impressive players for the Fifers.
