Champions Celtic kicked off the defence of their title with a comfortable 4-1 home win over Kilmarnock .

Killie had an equal amount of first-half possession Steven Naismith, the scorer of Kilmarnock's consolation goal, squandered an excellent opportunity to put his side ahead while Celtic were still labouring to find their form.

Last year's young player of the year shot straight at the chest of Artur Boruc and the goalkeeper saved at the striker's feet when he attempted to score at the second attempt.

But sloppy control from Lilley allowed Miller to steal the ball and deliver a fine, crossfield ball to the unmarked Zurawski, who drilled it low into the net from 10 yards for the opening goal,  after 25 minutes.

Czech Jari Jarosik headed a fine second in the 38th.

Japanese midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura curled home a magnificent third with a free kick from more than 20 metres with 15 minutes left.

Kilmarnock pulled a goal back when hard-working Steven Naismith cracked a left foot shot high into the net from 10 metres before Zurawski hit his second with a low shot in the final minute to complete the scoring.
