Kilmarnock started brightly and were the first side to direct a shot
towards goal in the fourth minute when Invincibile
unleashed a powerful effort from the edge of the area which comfortably
cleared the crossbar.
However, six minutes later, the Kilmarnock midfielder was not so
wasteful when presented with an opportunity to score and comfortably
beat Dorus de Vries with a low right-footed effort across goal which
found its way inside the Dutchman's far post.
Dunfermline then struggled to battle back into the game and, finally,
Mason came close to scoring with a half-volley in the 28th minute,
although from fully 30 yards the midfielder's effort cleared Kilmarnock
keeper Graeme Smith's goal.
Eight minutes before the interval, the home side finally called Smith
into action when Owen Morrison's centre was headed towards goal by
Stephen Simmons, but the Kilmarnock custodian made a routine catch from
a relatively weak effort.
Smith could do little to stop Dunfermline drawing level in the 42nd
minute though, thanks to a well-worked move by the Pars.
Morrison's cross again found the head of Simmons, but this time the
midfielder directed a pass across goal, which just eluded the grasp of
the Kilmarnock keeper and was turned into the net by Young.
The goal brought Dunfermline to life after a disappointing spell for
the majority of the first half and Young nearly stole a second prior to
the break when he
turned a shot from Aaron Labonte's cut-back just past
the post.
However, the home side were only on level terms for a short period of
time as within seven minutes of the restart Kilmarnock had retaken the
lead.
Allan Johnston was the architect with a well-weighted pass which was
seized upon by Gary Wales.
And, after the Killie striker turned Scott Wilson, he despatched a
driven effort past the helpless De Vries.
Jim Jefferies' side again failed to hold on to their lead though and,
in the 73rd minute, Dunfermline created a goal out of the scrappiest of
circumstances, profiting on Kilmarnock's inability to clear another deep
Morrison cross.
Jim Hamilton's header at the back post caused all sorts of problems
for a surprisingly ruffled Killie defence and Mason eventually turned
the ball into the net after a goalmouth scramble.
The Pars, encouraged by their ability to twice peg Killie back, went
on to score the winner when Crawford found room in a congested penalty
area before turning and placing a shot between the legs of Smith to
conclude a remarkable recovery in the 84th minute.
