David Fernandez will be out for the rest of the season with cruciate ligament damage. The former Celtic forward was carried off on a stretcher following a late tackle by Hoops defender Gary Caldwell during the Glasgow side's 2-1 Bank of Scotland Premier League win at Rugby Park on Sunday Oct 29th 2006.

Killie boss Jim Jefferies revealed a scan on Fernandez's left knee had confirmed his worst fears.

Thirty-year-old Spanish forward Fernandez had been returning to top form, after moving from Dundee United to Killie in August.

Jefferies said: "The news on David is not very good - he's going to be out for the rest of the season with cruciate ligament damage. He'll have an operation very soon to repair the damage. The surgeon will let us know what has to be done as soon as possible. It's a massive blow for the club and for the player. David took a few weeks to settle in but in the last few games he has been outstanding. He was just beginning to enjoy his football again after a tough time at Tannadice so it doesn't seem fair. But we'll just have to get on with it."
