The striker sent his effort down into
the turf and the ball carried past Michal Kula in the home goal.
Peterhead had watched a low Bobby
Mann free-kick from 30 yards out comfortably saved by Combe and the
shots continued to come from distance, with Graeme Sharp blasting wide
in the 35th minute.
Kilmarnock continued to pose a
serious threat on the break thanks to their pace and could have doubled
their advantage shortly afterwards.
Naismith picked up an Allan Johnston
through-ball in his stride, but when clean on goal, the 20-year-old
could only clip his effort wide of goal.
Kilmarnock remained in control as
half-time approached and Gibson volleyed over from the edge of the
penalty area, while new signing Ryan Jarvis flicked just wide after Nish
had done well to connect with a Naismith cross.
Killie went two ahead just three
minutes after the break when Wright rose to meet a corner from Dodds and
directed a powerful header inside Kula's far post.
To their credit, Peterhead responded
well to that setback and within four minutes had won a penalty when
Bavidge was brought down by Ryan O'Leary.
But Combe corerectly guessed
Bavidge's effort would go to his left and the Kilmarnock keeper parried.
In the 55th minute,
the game was over as a contest as Gibson's deep cross found the unmarked
Naismith who netted easily with a close-range header
