Notes:
A man of many clubs Allan Johnston
has certainly done the rounds. He spent over half a dozen years at
Hearts but will probably be best remembered for scoring at hat trick
against Rangers for them at Ibrox. One of the first Scottish players
to take advantage of the Bosman Ruling when he moved to France in
1996. His stay at Rennes was short lived however and Johnston signed
for the Black Cats for £5.5m. He turned out for them over a hundred
times but during his three year stay he was loaned out to Birmingham
and Bolton. Rangers brought the attacking midfielder back north on
another free transfer but his ill fated stay lasted only three
months and less than thirty appearances and the huns cashed in to
the tune of £600,000
when Magic transferred to Middlesbro. He never
had much to show from his time at the Riverside apart from a reputed
£20K a week and a short spell at Sheff Wed and that is why he agreed
to a massive wage cut and a move to Killie to team up with his
former mentor Jim Jefferies. Johnston has been capped 17 times for
Scotland (to date) with two international goals as well. He has the
rare ability of being able to play comfortably with either foot and
although normally utilised on one of the wings he can play through
the middle, behind the strikers or indeed up front as well. |
